The UK music scene has always been a reference of quality and brilliance. On 2015 a gigantic studio album was released bringing to rock a fresh feeling, shaking everyone’s head with solid songs, powerful mix of lyrics, sounds and arrangements; “My Love Is Cool” by Wolf Alice.

Interesting to say that it´s release was fairly anticipated at least in London, given the fact that the band previously released some singles & EPs (Extended Play) back on 2013 & 2014 where some of those songs such as “Moaning Lisa Smile” & “Fluffy” were included in “My Love Is Cool”

The opening track “Turn To Dust” is a quiet song but the magic of it is how beautifully unconventional Ellie Rowsell voice stands out. A song with a similar style but its rhythm keeps evolving throughout is “Silk” which creates a nostalgic environment with its keyboard intro and later incorporation of the drums accompanied with deep and sad lyrics that in times of loneliness and depression people can easily identify to, “My love it kills me slowly, Slowly I could die, And when she sleeps she hears the blues, Sees shades of black and white”. But not everything is sadness as there are love songs too; “Your Loves Whore” (even the title does not suggest it at all) with lyrics like “And when we grow older, We´ll still be friends, We´ll still be lovers, And won´t fear the end”. The mix of lyrics between opposite emotions on Wolf Alice songs is something very well reflected in the album.

On the faster rock songs “Giant Peach” is one of their best and usually when performing live and playing the intro, Ellie and bass player Theo Ellis have a small choreography that they perform which is lovely and pleasant to see till the rock mode kicks in. Their energy on live performances is something worth to watch where the four members Ellie, Theo, Joff and Joel give all of themselves to the fans and as a proof of that they won on 2014 “Best Breakthrough Artist” at the 2014 UK Festival Awards.

5 years of an album that without a doubt gave the rock genre a boost, making Wolf Alice ambassadors of it, a new phenomenon, an act that will keep growing and will be one of the biggest of its generation. I think that´s cool… pretty cool!
