2008 was the year when The Cure released their most recent album “4:13 Dream” and on 2019 they are headlining important music festivals such as Glastonbury, Roskilde and Austin City Limits. Did they become a cult band? Are their classics timeless? Many questions may arise but is impressive how still today, young generations are getting into their music and the band is just going on tour with sold out dates.
Looking at their discography we can find songs that have a profound and deep sound, a great example is Faith, released on 1981. But as well they have classics such as Lovesong, Just like heaven or Friday I’m in love that put a smile on your face.
Robert Smith with 60 years old can sing exactly as in the album and on a single night perform more than 30 songs. A couple of weekends ago in Germany they were scheduled to end the show at 2:00 am but they performed for 30 minutes more, and from concert to concert they vary the setlist which is so appreciated as nowadays in the majority of cases the bands go out on tour with a fix set of songs.
The Cure is an enigmatic band, simply magical and out of this world, no matter If they perform the classics or some rarities at their shows, they are timeless and we are lucky to still see them on tour.
P.S. On April 2013 at Mexico City they performed 50 songs! so you might get a nice surprise the next time you see them live!
