20 years ago a scream “Viva La Cucaracha” was heard on the first song from Papa Roach sophomore album; a phrase that still today is known for all their fans, and the lead singer Jacoby Shaddix still screams on their live shows. “Infest” was a record that had major success and made them known worldwide.
Who doesn’t remember the initial words of the first single Last Resort?, “Cut my life into pieces, This is my last resort” where afterwards a powerful chord with a guitar riff appeared to provide a taste of what we could expect from them, a good album from the nu metal genre which they formed part of and represented very well.
From the none singles, a song that stands out is “Blood Brothers” which the guitar riff at the beginning prepares yourself for the explosion that will come later, with the rapidness of the lyrics that are so characteristic of the band. Some other great songs are “Dead Cell”, “Broken Home” & “Snakes”
Have you ever wonder about their love for insects?, I guess they are the only ones that can have an answer to that; but the band even has a song named “Between Angels And Insects” which particularly is a fan favorite, and how wouldn’t be? It has and unforgettable guitar riff, Jacoby´s voice at the beginning is chill while singing about greed on the lyrics “There´s no money, There´s no possessions, Only obsessions, I don´t need that shit, Take my money, Take my obsession” to furthermore continue with a rock mix with rap.
20 years, time flies but still an album that will surely bring a lot of good memories to the fans, so why not today turn up the volume, play the entire record and imagine yourself at a live show with Papa Roach while Coby welcomes you with their signature scream Viva La Cucaracha!
