The synth pop trio Chvrches, is one of the most important acts from that genre with fresh and creative sounds having a strong, powerful frontwoman and lead singer. Lauren Mayberry who besides being a tremendous artist and singer, she has been identified as a speaker and activist for human rights and important causes in society. At some Chvrches shows she used a shirt with the legend “Girls Can Do Anything” as a message encouraging equality for females. Where I genuinely believe on it, equality for women is a must.

5 years ago, the band released their sophomore album Every Open Eye, creating great expectation. The record starts with Never Ending Circles, a good song to set up the stage that was used very frequently as the opener for their shows while promoting the record. The following song was the first single, Leave A Trace in which a representation of indifference but at the same time showing strength and confidence about saying I´ve got enough of this to move on. How you ever been into that? The road is hard but when you reach that point you feel free, you feel released.

A song with high adrenaline is Clearest Blue, the rhythms keep coming up and increasing on its intensity till getting to the middle of the song, where the explosion occurs and you feel as If you were dancing so hyped at the club. Another song with this same high-speed style is Empty Threat that is worth to check it out too. Bury It is a song that stands out that actually a year later from the release of the album a new version featuring Hayley Williams from Paramore was recorded and performed live at Bonnaroo 2016, lucky the ones who witnessed that moment.

Personally, one of the best tracks and hidden gems of the album is the song Playing Dead with the synths at their max creativity capacity, a good beat and impeccably written lyrics such as “If I give more than enough ground, will you claim it? I will take it all in one breath and hold it down, And If I try to pretend that I don´t hear it, You can tell me to move and I won´t go, You can tell me to try and I won´t go”.

5 years later Chvrches sophomore album continues to excite us, with that particular synth pop sound, those lyrics showing strength while being performed by Lauren´s soft but powerful voice, and I´m pretty sure that Every Open Eye that caught Chvrches, was here to stay with the Scottish band.
