The Australian singer Amy Shark recently released a song in collaboration with Travis Barker (blink-182). Is been a while since I wrote on the Song Thoughts section of concertmood.com due to some anniversaries in music and a livestream with The Mysterines which brought back the spark of concerts; nonetheless going deep into a song, immerse into the meaning and feelings evoked is one of the main reasons I love music and continue to share my thoughts with you; C´MON by Amy Shark is a song that perfectly fits 2020 and has exemplified how people have felt lately, so let´s take a look to it.

A piano introduction with a melancholy touch, Amy´s voice guiding us trough the melody and some strings to create the atmosphere before the drums played by Travis is a nice mix. On a recent social media post she explained that one of her favorite videos from blink-182 was Stay Together For The Kids from where she “borrowed” some ideas to implement in her music video for C´MON. Nice by combining references from the past and adapt them into what she was feeling and thinking about her song.

Lyrically speaking C´MON makes a reference to being down, and looking for help when you need it; this 2020 has been difficult for everyone and specially during lockdown people has struggled even more with mental health issues, depression; you name it. Where there´s always this inner question, Should I ask for help? Should I share my feelings, concerns and thoughts with someone? Is it fair/safe to do it? From my point of view is absolutely necessary and fair to pursue help, go with a friend or call a family member to keep our sanity. Is totally ok to ask for an arm to lean on when we are not feeling great; and this is what Amy Shark perfectly exemplifies with her lyrics: “C´mon, Help me up one more time C´mon, Give me that nice strong steady arm, What if I fall and you don’t see? I don´t wanna be responsible for me.”

Her voice and lyrics of the song are a powerful combination where even If you are feeling down, there´s still some hope and at the end of the day is what life is about, so take a look inside you, listen to C´MON  and keep it up cause you are not alone.
