The project that came to life because of Alex Turner and Miles Kane is a versatility proof of their creativity as musicians. As this is an alternative project for them with only 2 full length albums released; “The Age Of Understatement” & “Everything You´ve Come To Expect”.
Today we´ll dissect one of the most elaborated songs from their repertoire “Is This What You Wanted” which is actually a cover from Leonard Cohen, but the way was executed is so sublime. It starts with a synth and Alex´s voice on a very chill pace with the bass and some guitar chords in between, but is when the violins appear that makes the sound even more dramatic and keeps evolving during the verses.
The lyrics refer probably to a lost love. Who doesn´t have one? And still remembers it from time to time and wonders how things could have been different, but now is gone and sometimes the flashback memories are too deep that you feel like is happening again. That feeling is perfectly described on the lyrics “And Is this what you wanted?, To live in a house that is haunted by the ghost of you and me?”
As of now, The Last Shadow Puppets is an inactive project but hopefully they´ll make music together again. If we look at the trend of time between records it is 8 years, the last one was released on 2016 so we could expect a new album on 2024 (fingers crossed!) If is sooner the fans wouldn’t complain at all!, but in the meantime let´s turn up the volume, think about that ghost of you and me while dancing with those sexy moves as Alex does on the music video.
