One of the funniest songs from the British band Blur is “Country House” which has a good vibe and the trumpet provides a really special sound; a very interesting mix that in prior albums they used as well like in “Badhead” from “Parklife”.
“Country House” can be found on their 4th album “The Great Escape” released on 1995, along with a very fun video where the band and several people are walking and running on a board game as in the mouse trap game that surely most of us played at some point in our childhood, but in this Blur version is called “Escape The Rat Race”. As well the band enjoyed success with this album as they beat Oasis on the “Britpop Battle” of the single charts when top with “Country House” vs “Roll With It” from Oasis.
The song tells the story of a city man that decided to go and live on a country house; remember, this is a song from 1995 but still on those times living outside the city on a more relaxed way was a dream as it is still nowadays. Who wouldn´t like to spend some years relaxed after working so hard during life, sounds good, right? But as well would be good to do it not on loneliness because that’s when depression can hit, and the chill experience could turn into a not very pleasant one.
So, whenever you want to at least dream that you could disconnect and be outside the craziness and rapidness of the city, play this song and sing along: “He lives in a house, A very big house in the country, He´s got a fog in his chest, So he needs a lot of rest in the country”. And whenever you can relax and escape to the country!, In the Country!.
