The Killers is a rock band formed in the beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada that way back on 2004 with their first album Hot Fuss they made a breakthrough earning a spot in the music scene ever since, sixteen years later their 6th studio album came to light, officially now as a trio without the lead guitarist Dave Keuning but this situation didn’t avoid to have a record with hits that will be part of upcoming tours playing the songs on repeat as part of their classic songs, hidden gems with that characteristic synth-pop-rock and a couple of collaborations to make this a good album to be included in your playlist.
The opening song is “My Own Soul´s Warning” which was the 3rd single. Interesting how 4 songs were released first prior to the entire album, maybe was given the pandemic we are going trough right now or a way to little by little share the album and create some expectation given the way music is consumed today, where there´s a lot of options to be heard but of course a new The Killers album is always a good option.
Talking about collaborations, the song “My God (feat. Weyes Blood)” has that vibe of an anthem were the voice of Natalie Laura Mering (known as Weyes Blood) on the bridge gives a celestial vibe fitting perfectly on the song intention. Another collaboration on the album with that anthem sensation and bridging with a female is “Lightning Fields (feat. k.d. lang)”.
The first single “Caution” is that powerful song that live must sound amazing after Brandon ends up singing “She can go straight from zero to the 4th of July” I can just imagine fireworks before entering to the chorus and all the crowd going crazy with the spectacle. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Keeping our fingers crossed so in 2021 we can experience it live. “Blowback” and “Where The Dreams Run Dry” are tracks that continue with that theatrical climax vibe of The Killers bringing back some taste of the earlier years, good memories.
The last song which actually gives title to the album “Imploding The Mirage” is one of the best songs of the entire record, having that catchy rhythm, that theatricality, those synths and lyrics full of sentiment such as “While you were out there weighing odds, I was imploding the mirage, While you were out there looking like that, I walked right out of the camouflage, I wasn’t locked in no collage, I was imploding the mirage”. Nice way to end the journey of the 6th album. (Sawdust is considered a compilation)
Imploding The Mirage is a record that confirms The Killers artistic style and sound with notes from their earlier years making it a delight for the base fans and touching new generations guiding them to have curiosity about the Las Vegas band, so in 2020 this not an illusion, The Killers are back imploding your senses beyond the mirage.
