With a minimalist sound and just 3 records, the British band The XX is an example of how less is more and today we feel inspired to reflect on one of their songs from their latest album “I See You”.
“A Violent Noise” starts with that distinctive sound from Romy´s guitar and Oliver´s voice, where after 45 seconds the sampler from Jamie xx makes its appearance to prepare the song for the next level of energy, where more rhythms appear like If your head would have a collision of sounds till calm comes back with the initial riff and Romy´s turn to delight you with her voice. Afterwards the sampler beat starts to keep up (no doubt why Jamie is such a great remixer and producer) while is accompanied by Oliver´s voice to continue with the smash of sounds as he continues to guide us trough the escapade suggested by the lyrics.
The songs feels as If you are dealing against something that is hitting you so bad, but you are trying to escape from it trying to find a way out to peace yourself, this is exemplified with the lyrics “You´ve been staying out late, Trying your best to escape, I hope you find what you are looking for, Let a moment take place, without running away, I hope you silence the noise”. So no matter what are you escaping from or dealing with, is always worth a quiet instant in order to put your ideas on the right direction and keep going throughout the escapade.
As of 2020 the band members are working on individual projects, Jamie released a new song “Idontknow” on April 2020, meanwhile Romy announced her debut solo album to be released this year; as well she mentioned on that livestream that the band has been working on new music too. Therefore, while we wait for their anticipated 4th album let´s enjoy their solo projects till we hear new noise from The XX.
