25 Years Of “The Bends” Radiohead chasing their Street Spirit after Creep

With “Pablo Honey” Radiohead had a hit that still today is considered a rock anthem and even for those that are not huge rock fans and like another musical style, “Creep” is a song that for sure they have heard and even know part of the lyrics. Afterwards Radiohead´s sophomore album came out, and today we are going back 25 years to appreciate and enjoy again, “The Bends”.

This record has so many good songs that is difficult to choose one; just hit shuffle and destiny selected “Fake Plastic Trees”, the song has acoustic chords following Tom Yorke´s voice with lyrics so beautifully written to make you wonder about the realness or falseness of the world we live in, and people that surrounds you.

The first single “My Iron Lung” has a scratching opening guitar riff and by the middle of it the chords are very powerful. Another great song is “High And Dry” in which the acoustic guitar chords follow so nicely the high notes from Tom.

There are two hidden gems on this album that were not singles but are melodically a pleasure to our ears, “Nice Dream” & “Black Star”. The first one followed the acoustic guitar chords trend that they showed on several songs from the record. The second just gives you chills as when lyrics like “I keep falling over I keep passing out when I see a face like you, What am I coming to? I´m gonna meltdown” appear.

After “The Bends” they experimented and kept creating fantastic music, and hopefully a new album arrives this decade as the last one was on 2016 “A Moon Shaped Pool” but “The Bends” set up a foundation of Radiohead´s legacy and that’s what we are celebrating today. A record in which they chased their free and street spirit after an overwhelming success from their first album and by doing that they set “All this things into position” not fading out.
